The Lore of the Waters

I swam in a dream of water
It was always my home
The lakes and the seas
Were my playground to roam

I walked on the surface of a dream
Dimpled and frothy as the sea
Without a thought for loss
The water took everything from me

I breathed the salty dream
Into my lungs it coursed
My thoughts weren’t my own
By the water I was forced

I’ve given everything I have
And gotten nothing in return
But the deadly beauty of the water
Caused my soul to burn

I tried too hard
And lost all that I love
The water wasn’t mine
It simply gave me a shove

I couldn’t stop it
I sank to the sea floor
And the heavens opened to me
A glowing journey’s door
