Inside Battle Slots: Character Artist Dale Santoiemma

Battle Slots

April 20, 2011

Hi I am Dale Santoiemma, cartoonist/artist at Phantom…you might know me from such characters as Cat Crusader, Flameman, Professor and Witherbee, Lil Spookie and Blackbeard just to name a few. I was the character designer for Battle Slots. Which means I created and drew each of the creatures you fight and all the people you come into contact within Battle Slots.

Game Designer, Bryan, and I sat together and made a list of all the different creatures/characters that we thought we would need.  From there I searched the internet for certain creatures that we know have been done a million times (like specific dragons and such) so I made sure I making them look like they should. This way, people can tell what they are.  : ) Or on a lot of the creatures I would just make up my own look from what I thought they might look like.

My favorite thing about Battle Slots was the creative freedom to bring to life dozens of creatures!! I had a blast creating every single one of them because each one was so very different from the last. I really felt that I had the support of everyone involved in Battle Slots at Phantom which made the creatures that much more fun to do!

I can’t say I had many struggles with my Battle Slots experience except maybe towards the end my creative juices had about been drained and my brain hurt. : )

I hope you all really enjoy Battle Slots because it is a very unique game with so many Phantom talents taking part. We tried to do what we do best and made a great gaming experience.  I would love to do more characters and creatures for the world of Tellus, so check it out!
